Climate Risk and Opportunity Assessment
Climate Ready South East Scotland (CRSES) was a collaborative initiative led by Verture (formerly Sniffer) in partnership with the region’s six local authorities: City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Fife, Midlothian, Scottish Borders, and West Lothian. Conducted between November 2023 and March 2025, the project aimed to assess climate change risks and opportunities to inform regional adaptation strategies.
CRSES focused on understanding how climate change would impact the Edinburgh and South East Scotland region, identifying key risks and opportunities, and determining where regional action and collaboration were necessary. The project sought to lay the foundation for a transformational approach to climate adaptation and resilience, supporting a just transition to a net-zero and climate-resilient economy.
The assessment combined scientific evidence with local knowledge and lived experiences. It involved gathering formal evidence from over 70 organisations and collecting qualitative data through community engagement initiatives like the Climate Story Map.
