community wealth building
Since 2022, the Edinburgh South East Scotland City Region Deal (ESES CRD) has been working with the Centre for Local Economic Strategies (CLES) to explore community wealth building within our projects.
This journey has shown us what we have been doing well, what we can improve, and what we can influence in the future.
The deal projects all meet community benefit commitments. However, based on the good work established, we want to do more. We want to embed the priorities of Community Wealth Building into each project's construction, launch, operational and legacy phases.
Tying closely to the Benefits Realisation Plan objectives, the team have established three priorities to include in business-as-usual delivery.
Support the growth and development of SMEs
Support other progressive forms of ownership
Support progressive employment practice
The ESESCommunities portal plays an important role in linking our suppliers and grass route causes in the region.
The CLES framework for action clarifies how relationships, community engagement and progressive localised procurement can significantly impact and inform long-term change. Keeping all aspects of wealth within our local communities.
